The Houston Volunteer Fire Department Meets every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 6:30 PM at the First Station located at 226 East Madison Street.

Volunteer Fire Chief – Curt Jernigan

The volunteer fire chief is elected annually by the volunteer membership.

Members are a combination of six (6) paid and 20-25 volunteer firemen.

Three pumpers/ one rescue / one brush truck / one tanker.

Response coverage

Approximately 58 square miles; also provide mutual and automatic aide assistance throughout Chickasaw county.

Training

Training ranges from Certified Firefighter, Emergency Medical Responder/Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, Emergency Vehicle operations; a host of other fire service certifications and training.

Houston Volunteer Fire Department annually hosts Houston Fire Academy for children and youth ages 8-13. The Academy attendees learn about the job and equipment of a firefighter and are taught fire safety.​
